Small Business is the Backbone of Connecticut's economy....

"As a small business owner for more than twenty-five years, I will make it my priority as Connecticut's next Secretary of the State to promote the growth of small businesses statewide here in Connecticut"

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their summer and long Labor Day holiday weekend. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize all workers across our state, and small businesses in particular, and thank everyone for their dedication and contribution to our state's economy.

Many people don't recognize the role of the Secretary of the State's office in promoting businesses across our state. Providing support for businesses including sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations and non-profit organizations in the areas of financing, recording and licenses, as well as promoting business opportunities for women and minorities are just some the duties and responsibilities of the Secretary of the State.

As a Candidate for Secretary of the State, I recognize that Connecticut's economic success depends on hardworking entrepreneurs who start small businesses and provide thousands of jobs to workers all across our great state.

I am steadfast and determined to help small businesses in Connecticut succeed in every way I can. I understand the challenges of being a small business owner in Connecticut. I have practiced law here in the Northwest corner for more than a quarter century and have Torrington's oldest woman-owned law firm.

I believe that Connecticut must provide a wide range of support services to help start-up and growing companies to be competitive in the business world. Connecticut must have a business-friendly atmosphere and continue to lead the way in technology, a strong workforce, infrastructure, utility and financial needs for our businesses. Connecticut must continue to provide small businesses with the tools necessary to prosper in their local towns and cities.

I have always believed that our society must take a bigger role in helping American families, American workers and the businesses of our nation deal with the ever rising cost of health care. As a bankruptcy attorney and former director for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), I know that 50% of all Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings involve uninsured medical debt. As a society, we must insure that all Americans receive universal health insurance coverage, and I fully support universal health insurance coverage for all residents in our state.
