Campaign Finance

| Campaign Finance must be a top priority for Connecticut I am running for Secretary of the State to bring a new and different type of leadership to state politics. My public service background comes solely from local government. Unlike others, our support is coming mostly from small donations from everyday people. Our campaign doesn't subscribe to the status quo, talking about Campaign Finance Reform while accepting large donations from PACs, lobbyists, other special interest groups and organizations. My Campaign has an ambitious agenda for reforming the political system to better represent the interests of all Connecticut voters. Now that the legislative session has ended, our Democratic Party here in Connecticut has the opportunity to show its leadership once again by calling for a special session to pass comprehensive campaign finance reform with public financing of all campaigns. This will help to restore the confidence and trust of voters in our political system. The General Assembly should act soon while the momentum is still there. The cost of financing a statewide campaign for Secretary of the State is now over a million dollars. Candidates for public office should not have to spend all their time just raising money. They should spend their time talking about the issues and concerns of importance to you. The cost of publicly financing campaigns over four years would be a fractional percentage of over-all state spending.
