Reforming Democracy for the People

Hello, I'm Audrey Blondin and I am a candidate for Secretary of the State. The election will take place on November 7, 2006 and will fill the seat being vacated by the current Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, who is now a candidate for governor. I have entered this race because I think that Connecticut is headed in the right direction and needs strong leadership to keep the current wave of progressive ideas moving forward.

I have 10 years of municipal experience and have been an attorney for 25 years, practicing primarily in the areas of real estate, bankruptcy, and wills and probate law. For the past three years, I have served as the Connecticut Director for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, supporting the rights of working families and those in need to make a fresh start when faced with difficult financial circumstances. From 1993-2003, I served on the Litchfield Board of Selectmen and was the longest serving Democratic woman Selectman in our town. I currently serve on the Democratic State Central Committee representing the 30th State Senate District. Most recently, I had the pleasure of serving as the 5th CD Coordinator for Kerry for President. As your Secretary of the State, I will use my many years of experience to enact positive reforms that will strengthen our democracy here in Connecticut:

  • Increasing communication and outreach with local elected officials and volunteers
  • Bringing new voters into the fold and increasing voter participation for all age groups
  • Maintaining services for small businesses and corporations by supporting and promoting economic development in the Secretary of the State's office

  • Returning the trust and accountability the voters have in their elected officials by enacting strong Campaign Finance Reform with Public Financing of Elections

  • Making sure all elected officials realize that we are "a nation of people governed by laws" and that they are accountable to the voters by establishing a Code of Ethics for all Connecticut municipalities

  • Assuring Connecticut's voters that every vote counts by adopting Electronic Voting Machines with a Voter Verified Paper Trail

  • Continuing to upgrade the technology and services in the Secretary of the State's Office to be "user friendly" for citizens and businesses.
  • Thank you all again for your dedication, thoughtfulness and commitment to our campaign. I am very grateful & appreciate it very much.

    Best regards,
